The game of cricket is a bat-and-ball game that is played between two teams of eleven players. The field that play on features a 20-metre (22-yard) pitch with a wicket at each end each having two bails that are balanced on three stumps. The gameplay is such the batting side has to score runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat. The bowling and fielding side attempts to prevent or limit this and dismiss each player. This dismissal is also referred to as "out". There are many ways one can be dismissed in the game of cricket. One method of dismissal is being bowled. This happens when the ball strikes the stumps and dislodges the bails. A player can also be dismissed when the fielding side catches the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground. The innings ends once ten players of the batting side have been dismissed and the teams swap roles.
The game of cricket is played in various formats. The most famous and the most glamorous is the Twenty20 which is played over a few hours with each team batting for a single inning of 20 overs. Test matches are played over five days with unlimited overs with the two the teams each batting for two innings of unlimited length.
