Summary Of The Book

Published in 1992, The Stars Shine Down tells story of Lara Cameron who is now a billionaire and a triumphant real estate developer. She owns everything that one can think of to lead a happy life. She is young and beautiful and has made a fortune for herself. With her hard work and talent, she reached the pinnacle of fame and fortune. However, she is portrayed as a lonely figure who is not able to get over the bad memories of her awful past and childhood.

Lara belonged to a broken family in Nova Scotia. Very early in her childhood, she has to face the brutal realities of the world. She could not be with her mother as she died during the childbirth and her father does not need her. So she learns the hard way to earn for herself to survive in this male-dominated society. After her father’s death, she moved to Chicago to start her real estate business. The first deal she makes is in exchange for her body.

After overcoming various problems in her life, she becomes a wealthy and powerful building developer. She is nicknamed the "Iron Butterfly” and her skyscrapers, towers, and hotels make her the most successful businesswomen and she becomes the object of envy for both men and women. She is ruthless, glamorous, vulnerable, insecure, bold, generous and with her cunning mind she closes deals and makes brutal enemies.

The story moves from Reno, Rome, Nova Scotia, Chicago, London to New York. Once she falls in love and marries the world-famous international concert pianist, Philip Alder she is sure that she has fulfilled her destiny.

Sidney Sheldon was born in 1917 in Chicago. He started his career by reviewing scripts for movies. He wrote his first novel The Naked Face in 1969 and since then he has won various awards for his works. He has won Academy Award for Writing the Original Screenplay for the movie The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer,and was nominated for an Emmy Award. He married three times in his life and died a few days before his 90th birthday from pneumonia.
