When Garcia was working as a newspaper writer, he had penned a series of stories about a shipwrecked sailor, Luis Alejandro Velasco, who was the only survivor of a ship accident after all of his colleagues drowned. It was told that the disaster happened due to the negligence of the Colombian navy. This book is based on the series of articles written by Garcia. It delves into the instinctive, primitive existence of the man in the face of a disaster, and the resulting solitude.
About Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez was a Colombian writer of novels, short-stories, screenplays and journalistic columns. He is best remembered for: One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch and Love in the Time of Cholera. Marquez won much acclaim for his contribution to Colombian literature, including the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1972, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. His works were often based around a fictional village called Macondo and explore the themes of solitude and magic realism.
