  • Description
In 1971, while working the late-shift at a Seattle crisis clinic, true-crime writer Ann Rule struck up a friendship with a sensitive, charismatic young coworker: Ted Bundy. Three years later, eight young women disappeared in seven months, and Rule began tracking a brutal mass murderer. But she had no idea that the "Ted" the police were seeking was the same Ted who had become her close friend and confidant. As she put the evidence together, a terrifying picture emerged of the man she thought she knew-his magnetic power, his bleak compulsion, his double life, and, most of all, his string of helpless victims. Bundy eventually confessed to killing at least thirty-six women across the country. Forty years after its initial publication, The Stranger Beside Me remains a gripping, intimate, and unforgettable true-crime classic, "as dramatic and chilling as a bedroom window shattering at midnight" (New York Times).

    Un-Putdownable.

I read. A lot! And when I say a lot, I mean a great lot. I mostly read crime-thrillers, murder novels, detective stories, and whole lot of non-fiction murder stories. And every month I always pick out the best book I have read and recommend it to other people. This month, Ann Rule Blew me!

This is my first time reading an Ann Rule novel. But I have always known about Ted Bundy. I mean, I am obsessed with serial killers, or rather their psyche. I had read a lot about Ted Bundy on the internet...

Inside the mind of a killer.

I read a lot about the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy when I was young.I bought this book for my daughter who has psychology as one of her subjects. This book was according to her simply superb as she got a first hand view of someone who was close to Bundy.I have read quite a few books by Ann Rule but this seems to be her best so far.Indeed the character of Bundy fascinates and appals students of criminology.

    Chilling

Picture a handsome, well-read, suave and chivalrous man that you know socially or at work. Now picture this man beating a college girl with a crowbar until her brains are scattered around her bedroom.

Ann Rule knew a man just like that. Ted Bundy was her team partner at a Crisis counseling center. She saw him as the kind of man she would like for her daughters to marry someday.

Using factual police and court records and photographs, Ms. Rule recounts how she came to see the monster inside...
