Richard Russell Riordan, Jr., born in 1964, is an American author.

He has written books like The Devil Went Down to Austin, Percy Jackson’s Book of Greek Gods, The Last Olympian, and Rebel Island.

The author graduated from University of Texas at Austin, with a double major in English and History. He completed his teaching certification course from UT San Antonio. Riordan taught at Presidio High School in San Francisco for eight years, and at Saint Mary’s Hall in San Antonio for six years. Eventually, he stopped teaching in order to become a full-time writer. Riordan is the author of The Maze of Bones, which reached the No.1 spot on The New York Times bestseller list in 2008. Riordan was featured as a guest at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International. He enjoys swimming, reading, and playing the guitar. The author lives with his family in Boston, Massachusetts.
