    Description
What would you do if you didnt fit in? Muskaan is in hospital, fighting for her life. Three classmates - her former best friend Aaliya, the hottie Prateek and the class topper Subhojoy - talk about Muskaan and themselves. About school, home and the larger world, the school bus and the basketball court, about secrets that become burdens and through their stories are revealed the twists and turns that drove Muskaan to try to kill herself. Funny and tragic by turns, talking of Muskaan is a warm, moving novel about life and death and the young people caught in between.

I wish I had read this ten years ago.

Teenage is the age of uncertainty and constant self-doubt. And a young girls needs all the help she can get. I wish I had found Muskaan and her warm, delicate coming of age story when I was fifteen and busy worrying about boys, girls, the hair on my arm and the ideas in other people's heads. Gift this to your favourite troubled teen or read it yourself if the world still doesn't make much sense.

a spot on and sensitive potrayal of teen life

Growing up is much too early in this fast paced age of TV and wifi. Teens are in possession of too much knowledge and very little wisdom on how to deal with it. It is about time these issues were discussed in the Indian context, and “Talking of Muskaan” does just that.
The author Himanjali Sankar has captured the pulse of metro city teens brilliantly in her sensitive account of two friends -coming to terms with their personal and sexual identities amidst the normal woes of teenage life.

One of the best YA novels in India

    The good:

    1) Varied characters. I like how each chapter is from a different person's perspective, giving a greater picture.
    2) You know what's happening even though the character narrating themselves are not aware of what fully is going on. It's hard to explain unless you read this book, and it's a very smart touch by the author.
    3) All the characters tend to be judgemental and jerks in their own way, even though they don't say what they think out loud. It's also funny, with Aaliya especiall...
