Over the past five decades, based on practical experience in the use of food exchange lists for teaching, diet planning and patient counselling, faculty of Lady Irwin College has been constantly revising the food exchange lists to make them suitable for contemporary use. Since nutrient values form the basis for the calculation of food exchange, any change in these is quickly updated in exchange lists. All earlier exchange lists were based on Nutritive Value of Indian Foods (ICMR, 1989), however with the release of IFCT in 2017, the food exchange list required a complete recalculation.
