This book is primarily written with the objective to provide a standard text-book for the first year students of three year degree course of Indian universities. An attempt has been made to cover the syllabi of various universities and particularly the syllabi recently recommended by the University Grants Commission The subject matter is divided into eight sections : Algae, Fungi, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms and Palaeobotany. Each section has independent pagination. General characters and classification are provided for each plant group. This is followed by structure and the life-cycles of important genera. Some general topics have been discussed for each plant group. At the end of each chapter some important questions are given for revision
