  • Description

The Andromeda Strain is thriller about an extra-terrestrial microorganism that is about to overpower human life.

    Summary of the Book

The United States government has received a warning saying that the sterilization procedures for the returning space probes may not necessarily guarantee decontamination. This means, that these unmanned spacecraft may still have particles that could prove dangerous to the planet. This incident took place two years ago. Now, Project Scoop has sent seventeen satellites into space to collect organisms and dust for study. One of the probes falls on earth and lands in an area in northeast Arizona. Soon after this incident, dead bodies have been discovered in heaps in a nearby town of Piedmont. Everybody around is horrified at the incident and there is an investigation as to what caused this scene. As the scientists come closer to the answer, they realize that the danger they are dealing with is much bigger than what they assumed.

    Unputdownable

The man who has written Jurassic Park, Airframe and Congo has again proved it why he is considered as one of the bests in it. He has again done a pretty nifty job.... Once I started reading it, I finished it 6 hours and I still think "Why did I finish it so early????" Like I wanted to savor it for some more time....

    excellent

considering it was his first, it has all the hallmarks of a michael crichton technothriller that would characterise his later work. the research into various aspects and the explicit detail speak of the abundance of tresearch that has gone into making the book. it will appeal to you and more so if you enjoy science and life sciences like biology in particular.

    Crichton at his best!!

This is really a classic work from Michael Crichton. After reading, you will come to appreciate that the boundary between reality and fiction is actually thin, as they say. He may be the only one who gives references at the end of a fictional work. Being a physics student, it appeals to me. Combined with all these minute details, suddenly the whole world becomes a mesh of fact and fiction. Hats off to the author!!

    Interesting start, disappointing end

It's written very well. The beginning start off really well, but the pace slackens in the middle and is quite disappointing at the end. Still a good read, but nothing spectacular.

    Definitely a must read

My fist read of Michael Crichton and being a fan of Sidney Sheldon this book really hooked me in. You might not really understand the technicalities that are mentioned in the book as it deals with research on components in the biological space. Lot of research has been done on this get to understand it details once you read through the story. Overall a good book and will have lot of information that you hadn't expected.
