The text of this great book includes 15 books, each addressing one topic pertaining to the state and its economy. The books include topics like the law, the king, foreign policy, discipline, capturing a fortress, and the duties of the government rulers. Kautilya explains in detail the duties and virtues of an ideal king. The descriptions include a break up of what the ideal king should do during the course of the day and how the king should behave in typical situations. The Arthashashtra also includes detailed strategies like gift, bribery, illusion, and strength to deal with the neighbouring countries. The other important sections of the book include maintenance of law and order in the state, forests and wildlife, and economic ideas. Just Incredible

Kautilya's Arthashastra is one of the best treatise written in the world, regarding how an ideal State should be... It deals with almost each and every aspect of the society... imagine that and don't forget that it was written almost 2000-2500 years ago, and still it is relevant today also... We can say that it is one of the best treatise ever written in the Eastern Political Thought/Philosophy about how a State should be and what are its functions...
It is a must read for any one who wants t...

    Interesting Read

I bought this book out of curiosity. This book mainly deals with money organization, crime-punishment, organizing the army and all other stuffs needed by a king to manage and govern his kingdom.

Contents are not democratic and some of the laws are misogynistic ( as it was compiled during vedic period)

Its a little over priced if you are not interested to read. Its good for people who have keen interest in history.

    Hats off to flipkart

I wasnt sure about the translation of this book because I havent heard of the translator before. But the content is well explained in and orderly manner along with maps and illustrations. Its a good book for a person who is actually interested in learning what kind of statecraft existed in Chanakya's time. It is meant to be a reference book and by no means a novel or commentary.

Dont bother looking for this book at your local book store. Its not available in any of the major retailers you ...

    Good read

This book is a good read.. again - when reading some parts, you need bear in mind the life and times of Chanakya. The way you cannot compare modern law to Hammurabi's edicts, you should not use your current society as a yard-stick for understanding this book. The basis of the philosophy is sound. To be able to verbalize, and write down, the intrigues and principles of statesmanship, takes a genius. This book, is the crystallized form of that.

    The Science of Economics.

It is said that there where many books related to Science of Economics. But this is the best one by none other than Chanakya himself, which covers how rulers use to rule a Kingdom, how they handled taxation, handling Economics & warfare. This is a awesome book to have in your library. I was impressed from some of the starting pages of this treatise which says, "Every neighbouring nation is your enemy & its internal enemy is your friend".

    Kautilya's Genius

I have bought this book as i had heard and read so much about the great Kautilya.

In my opinion, Chanakya is greater than even Krishna. Krishna had unlimited powers, intelligence, knowledge, access to resources etc. He knew everything about everybody and everything. He knew everything about every individual's past, present and future births and their strengths and weaknesses. He had complete knowledge of the Atman and of Human Emotions. So he could do what he did.

    In contrast, Chanakya had ...

You can relate many things in this book to real life. A must read for the interested persons who reads the title and is interested in Arthasastras.
Some introduction chapters are really good.

I you are interested in history and hindu ways is is nice book.
But I cant believe like there was such a systematic way of life back then with strict laws.

    Evergreen Book For all

I just love this book.Flipkart delivered it in an excellent condition. What a beautiful classical it is. Once should read it before one's death.

This book helps me in all aspects of my life.....I mean it "all aspects",be it personal or professional.

It takes guts to study this book as it is a bit bulky and patience to understand it keeping the past and present in juxtapose.

I don't tell what is all it about because you know it but I tell you, infact, insist all to study this,understand,revi...

    The Origin of Planned Government

Kautiliya created a beautiful system of governance, the Kingdom functioned and if you look at the rules that applied to citizens and slaves its amazing as there was more respect and equality then. If you look at the current form of government its rules are barbaric compared to the refinement of the Past and the Kings responsibility as compared to the weak, neutered and gagged system of Democracy and Republic which put the power in a few hands of the megalomaniacs and intangible profit is made...
