Description
The book explores the battle between Western and traditional approaches to Sanskrit and sanskriti (Civilization). It exposes the dominant Western scholarship, in particular its subversive allegation that the Sanskrit heritage has been a political weapon for social oppression. Without adequate critical inquiry, Indian English-language elites have internalized such lopsided ideas and enshrined them in various mainstream institutions. Controversial and thought-provoking, the book proposes a set of debates for the intellectual kurukshetra (battlefield) pertaining to the social, political, historical and contemporary dimensions of Indian sanskriti. It is intended as a wake-up call to the traditionalists and seeks to inspire a home team to pursue such debates.

Brilliant

Two most important points he has brought out is that the Chinese studies, Russian studies, French, Japanese, Koean etc are controlled by their respective nationals but Sanskrit studies are controlled by West not Indians who are the insiders to the traditions.

The Sanskrit blame game

Rajiv Malhotra's new book throws light into the world of social sciences and makes one wonder if social science is itself a science. Science is supposed to be objective, but does not seem so from Malhotra's work. The lens used is so colored by who we are as people and our cultural moorings. It is clear that Malhotra has put in painstaking effort to bring this book out and the issues put forth by him are very relevant. In this book Malhotra has taken on formidable scholars boldly, and dares...

great book

'The Battle for Sanskrit' by Rajiv Malhotra is a very enthralling book, once you start reading you are sure to leave it only after you complete it. The book is not a result some hollow arguments and theories, it is a testimony of how easily a westerner is able to high-jack the studies related to our own language and civilization and that too unopposed; just because of the mere fact that either we are less clever or too ignorant.

The book puts up some very fundamental and important questio...

Excellent Book

The latest book from Rajiv Malhotra is an eye opener for all Indians Spiritual Leaders and General Public about who has the adhikara in Indology (the westerners) and a call for work to the insiders to take this adhikara to them because they are the true practitioners of the tradition. The outsiders consider Hindu Tradition, especially sanskrit Language as Oppressive to the women and the lower castes. It blows away the cover of outsiders who say Sanskrit propagated as a result of the Nexus bet...

The Battle of Sanskrit - another Chakra Buhya

The book ‘The Battle for Sanskrit’ informs us about modern Kurukshetra between American Orientalists like Mr. Sheldon Pollock, his team and our Sanskriti. This is about hijacking our Sanskrit and sanskriti. Many eminent Indian scholars, business tycoons are in awe of Mr.Pollock and ready to elevate their social status, prestige by offering millions of dollar for his work. Even our own Sringeri Math was going towards same direction. Shri Rajiv Malhotra intervened the matter and till decision i...

firangi indology and repercussion on Indian psyche

A must read for everyone who loves India and it's sanskriti. Rajiv explains how European social science theories which have no relevance in Indian context are changing the topology of Indology and Indic studies including secularism, subaltern studies, marxism, feminism, class struggle, political philology etc.

Using imported theories and substrate, foreign social scientists (including Sanskrit scholars) along with their desi sepoys are widening the fissures and created new ones as well.
