The Blood Telegram: India’s Secret War in East Pakistan is a historical account of the events before the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war.

    Summary of the Book

In this book, Gary Bass looks at secret White House tapes, declassified documents and uses investigative reporting to explain his view of what happened before the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. He writes that there was a secret operation prior to the war, one involving scandals. He writes about the events that led up to the war and his ideas on the formation of Bangladesh. He puts forth his views that in the events that followed, the Bangladeshi were the collateral damage, victims of cruel power games played by world leaders. This book is a must-read for history buffs and fans of controversial accounts of history.

Highly recommend to get an indepth understanding of the Bangladeshi independence war

This book is quite an eye-opener indeed to how policy decisions are made.

The research is impeccable, I am amazed at the amount of work that’s gone into the writing of this book, and the amount of sources that Gary Bass has used.

I do wish though that this was a more balanced book. Gary Bass has tried to include all viewpoints – India, America – both Republicans and the Democrats, however, there is not much from Pakistan or the actual leaders behind the Bangladeshi war of independence. It’...

The Blood Telegram tells it all, chapter and verse

The Blood Telegram is a must read for every person, especially of the Indian subcontinent. it is as much the document of the birth of Bangladesh as it is a documentation of the bloodbath unleashed by Pakistan army within its own territory, upon its own people, for the simple reason that they wanted a democratic dispensation. Bangalis did not want to secede from Pakistan; they only demanded the right to be ruled by their own voice and not the masters from west Pakistan. In an election conducte...

A comprehensive history of the liberation of Bangladesh

The complicity of a super power, following it's own vested interests in foreign policy, is made evident by Gary J. Bass in this wonderful book. Nixon and Kissingers policy of appeasement towards Yahya and teir contempt and hatred for Mrs Gandhi is brought out with stark brutality in this exceptional book.
