J. K. Rowling’s first novel for adults – The Casual Vacancy - is a story of a town called Pagford that becomes a town at war plagued with class, politics and other social issues after the death of Barry Fairbrother, the beloved Parish Councillor.
Summary of the book
Pagford is an English paradise to an outsider, with a market square and an ancient abbey where the revered Parish Councillor Barry resides in. The pleasant disguise of the town soon unveils the social, political conflicts along with an anxious election that involves deceit, unpredictable revelations - all for the successor seat left by Fairbrother. The book is adapted into a BBC television series and is yet to be released. The Casual Vacancy also became the 15th best-selling book of 2012 in the first week of its release.
About J. K. Rowling
Rowling was born in England. She was working as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International when she considered the idea of writing the Harry Potter fantasy series. The rest was history, as the series became a worldwide phenomenon and won multiple awards. It sold more than 400 million copies. The series is also adapted as motion pictures. Rowling has now continued writing novels for adults.
