    Description
'The Cuckoo's Calling reminds me why I fell in love with crime fiction in the first place' VAL MCDERMID ----- Now a major BBC drama: The Strike series When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case. Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . . A gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London - from the hushed streets of Mayfair to the backstreet pubs of the East End to the bustle of Soho - The Cuckoo's Calling is a remarkable book. Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. *** The latest book in the thrilling Strike series, LETHAL WHITE is out now! *** ----- PRAISE FOR THE STRIKE SERIES: 'One of the most unique and compelling detectives I've come across in years' MARK BILLINGHAM 'The work of a master storyteller' DAILY TELEGRAPH 'Unputdownable. . . A solid muggle detective story (oh yes, she's done it again!)

I wasn't very thrilled about The Casual Vacancy, JKR's entree into adult fiction. In fact, it wasn't my thing at all. I couldn't even finish it.

But with The Cuckoo's Calling JKR's done it again. She's brought back the warmth I always associated with Hogwarts in this solid muggle detective story! The writing is BRILLIANT- with lines I found myself highlighting and smiling at. I love the quirkiness in her descriptions and how well fleshed out the characters were. Their accents, their airs, th...

    Gooooood... NOT Great!! :D

    Story: 8/10

The main plot of this novel is good, very much along the lines of an Agatha Christie novel. I assure you that at no point will you feel bored by it, and that "Galbraith" [ :P ]has done a good job keeping the suspense till the very end. It does not get a perfect 10 because at times, it is quite over-the-top, and the characters are at times "unreal".

Style of Writing, Setting of Novel, Theme etc.: 8.5/10

The style of writing is familiar to anyone who has read the Ha...

Rowling weaves her magic even in crime fiction...

Rowling is very good at story telling and portraying the various characters in her book. The literature is fresh and crisp. When it comes to detective work, the only other books i have read are from Sherlock Holmes & Hercule Poirot, and clearly they are the best when it comes to crime solving. But Rowling shines in her brilliant story telling.

    An interesting novel

Well, we all know that his book is written by J.K. Rowling. Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym. I appreciate her guts to try a different genre. Cuckoo's calling is a murder mystery. Her plot characterization and how the novel progressed reminded me of Agatha Christie's writing. A supermodel commits suicide. The question is did she really commit suicide? The detective who investigates the murder is Coromoran Strike.

The novel picked after I completed about 60 % of the novel. After that I could ...

    Dangerously detailed

An explosive debut for "Robert Galbraith" !

The gist of the novel is that a Private Investigator has been hired by the victim's brother to find out whether the supermodel committed suicide when by all accounts she was hale and happy or was it murder. It displays the sordidness of London and the paparazzi culture in agonizing detail and mercifully limits the royal references to 4.

As it proceeds, Rowling demonstrates her ability to present her characters with shifting shades rather tasteful...

    An average Read

I was really looking forward to another of JK Rowling's work. But this book is a very slow in terms of plot. As always hats off to JK Rowling's use of English language. But considering that it is a crime fiction, there is little attempt to capture reader's attention. It's only towards the end that pace is built and the novel comes to a conclusion. Till then you feel like checking wikipidea for the plot summary.

    Not bad!!

Well, I am an ardent fan of J.K.Rowling. The care and detail with which she creates each scene is something which I loved in Harry Potter series. The same level of detail can be seen in this book too, which makes it a bit lengthy at 400+ pages.
But have I read better crime thrillers than 'The Cuckoo's calling'? Yes. Is it a waste of time and money? No.

Verdict - Read it for J.K.Rowling.

J K Rowling in her sleuth avatar

Good, riveting etc. But nowhere near endearing as Harry Potter - but may be she wrote in a new name just to avoid such insidious comparisons!

Astounding book by j k Rowling

I read the book without knowing it was written by j k Rowling. It is a hard boiled detective novel and very well written. I could not figure it out till the end and what a surprise it was. Please buy the book.
