The Emerging Mind is a book authored by Vilayanur Ramachandran, and introduces the latest thoughts on the mind and the brain, while trying to unlock the mysteries about oneself.

    Summary Of The Book

Using neuroscience to explore internal treasures, The Emerging Mind speaks about our knowledge of the brain, having progressed to an extent that it will bring changes in the way we perceive ourselves. The author says that readers will witness changes in their idea of themselves after perusing this book.

The lectures from The Emerging Mind are brilliantly delivered by the world’s leading expert, Vilayanur Ramachandran. Going back in time and picking up from where early thinkers like Darwin, Freud, Charcot and others began, new evidence about human nature is gathered. It gives substance to some statements and intuitive leaps made back then about the nature of self.

This book explains how using instruments like mirrors can help rewire the circuits within the human brain and rectify neurological disorders. The Emerging Mind also gives an idea about how languages were evolved. It shows how amazing the ability of a brain is, to ask questions about itself.

The Emerging Mind has empirical evidence that answers ancient philosophical questions about meaning and existence. It presents a new framework to understand the ways in which the brain understands art. It consists of five lectures like Phantoms in the Brain, the Artful Brain, and the Neuroscience.

The Emerging Mind is a compilation of the Reith lectures and was written by Vilayanur Ramachandran in 2003. Questioning the Freudian theory, he has tried to explain all human behavior and responses in terms of the working of the brain. He wrote the book using simple language and an earthly humor. His books are experimental in nature, which make the readers contemplate and analyze.

Vilayanur Ramachandran has authored the book purely from the brain’s perspective. He touches upon various aspects ranging from personal characteristics, social behavior, and philosophy, to family interaction, free will, and art.

Gentle introduction to Dr. Ramachandran's oeuvre and neuroscience

The lectures in this book were originally delivered as the BBC Reith Lectures, in 2003, which introduced me to Dr. Ramachandran's fascinating work.

This book is an accessible introduction to neuroscience. Fear not that this is a dry collection of interesting facts. He weaves a compelling picture of the human brain, using his own research as well as that of others, which are often disarmingly simple. You will also be introduced to various conditions certain of his patients suffer from, which ...
