The Eye of the World is the first part of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time fantasy fiction series.
Summary of the Book
The Creator made the Wheel of Time and the Great Serpent in the moment of creation. He then bound the Dark One Shai’tan to keep him from touching the world. Eons ago, a group of Aes Sedai freed the Dark One and began an age of darkness and chaos. To save the world, one man led a team of a hundred male Aes Sedai to seal the Dark One’s prison. He succeeded, but the Dark One’s retaliation drove him and the rest of his comrades mad. The male half of the One Power, the omnipresent source of the Aes Sedai’s powers, was tainted. Maddened, the male Aes Sedai began killing everyone, and the female Aes Sedai began their assault against the men who were once their comrades, friends and lovers. The brave leader of the male Aes Sedai killed his very family with his own hands out of madness. For this dark deed, he is now remembered as Kinslayer. Before this, however, he had another name; one that drove men to flock to his banner in praise. Men flocked to him, and he ruled them. His name was Lews Therin Telamon, the Lord of the Morning, the Prince of the Dawn, the Dragon. Now, three thousand years after the Dragon’s death, the Dark One threatens the world once again. Prophecy proclaims that the Dragon will ride again on the winds of time. An Aes Sedai and her Warder journey to the Two Rivers, to find a young man who may be the key to saving the world again. However, the Dark One has eyes and ears everywhere, and he may still destroy everything with his touch.
