  • Description
'An irresistibly brilliant examination of modern conscience' The New York Times Jean-Baptiste Clamence is a soul in turmoil. Over several drunken nights in an Amsterdam bar, he regales a chance acquaintance with his story. From this successful former lawyer and seemingly model citizen a compelling, self-loathing catalogue of guilt, hypocrisy and alienation pours forth. The Fall (1956) is a brilliant portrayal of a man who has glimpsed the hollowness of his existence. But beyond depicting one man's disillusionment, Camus's novel exposes the universal human condition and its absurdities - for our innocence that, once lost, can never be recaptured ... Very well written, short and amazing!

I read the book a few months ago, I must say it’s a true masterpiece.
I am reading ‘Nausea’ by Jean Paul Sartre right now which is said to be a rival book to ‘The Fall’ and love for ‘The Fall’ has increased, Nausea is 300 pages of vague ideas and I’m having a tough time reading that one, ‘The Fall’ was 92 pages of absolute amusement, the book indeed is short, there isn’t much of a story line, it’s about a lawyer who feels empty, so he discusses his ideas about life, incidents he has witnessed...

    Super!

A masterwork delineating the futility of existence with dexterity. Recommend especially for those who would love to question the validity of social-normalcy.
