Summary of the Book
Steinbeck describes the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s through the lives of the family of Oklahoma farmers. The Joads lose everything in the wake of the Great Depression. They are forced out of their homes and sent west to California, the “promised land”. In this epic drama, Steinbeck shows how the family faces trials and hardships, describing the difficulties faced by countless families during the Great Depression. A classic account of the tribulations of the lower and middle classes during that era, this book tells an intensely human and stirring tale.
About John Steinbeck
John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was an American novelist and short story writer known for Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for the above novel. He was also awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize for Literature.
