The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles Of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success And Performance At Work is a must-read for everyone in the present times where stress and success seem to go hand in hand, vaporizing happiness on the way.
Summary Of The Book
It is common thought that hard work leads to success, which in turn can make everyone happy. However, the author of the book The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles Of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success And Performance At Work begs to differ and says that the reality is in fact the other way around. It is happiness that leads to success, a subject that Shawn Achor has brought to the forefront in this widely read text.
Regarded as an expert on the relation between success and happiness, Achor in the book The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles Of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success And Performance At Work throws ample light on the fact even in today’s highly stressed world where competition is intense, it is one’s inner happiness that fuels success. The author conducted a survey on happiness and human potential with 1600 students from Harvard University before writing this book, based on which he has made this claim.
Achor, in this compelling read, argues that happiness contributes to success because only when one is happy can they become more productive, creative, motivated, energetic, healthy and stress-resilient.
In this book, the author shares with readers seven principles of positive psychology that he says if followed, have the potential to better performance at work and in personal lives and hasten career growth. These and the other principles outlined have been tested across classrooms and boardrooms across the world. A few of the tried and tested principles that are the highlights of the book include The Tetris Effect, The Zorro Circle and Social Investment that teach us to grab great opportunities, to channelize efforts for achieving goals and to invest in socialization. The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles Of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success And Performance At Work was a New York Times bestseller.
