    Description

The Helpline tells the contemporary story of a suicidal man, trying to find help through a telephonic helpline.

    Summary of the Book

Rachel works at a suicide helpline, and it is her job to help people move on with their lives and come out of depression. So when she gets a call from Samir, who feels suicide is the only answer to how he feels after facing failure at every step in life. Rachel takes it upon her to teach him that even though there is darkness everywhere, there is still a ray of hope, a small source of light that can shine in anyone's life. However, as Samir begins to question, who is Rachel, and what exactly is the hotline? Samir's own identity is a question in this novel as it addresses not love but the pangs of failed love and coping with them.

Helpline by Uday Mane, has got many controversial reviews. Some love it and some hate it. I resonate with it. But since the editor in me often takes a nap when I am writing, I guess I will sing my lullaby and put it to sleep again.

Suicide is a very controversial subject. The su...

Story-line – Interesting, intriguing and one you can relate to. This is not just the story of Samir the protagonist, who shows suicidal tendency on account of his inability to cope up with a guilt but is also the story of a sister who’s world revolves around her one and only brother a victim of Down’s Syndrome. The Helpline also introduces us to a true friend in the form of Neha. Her worries, her concern for the protagonist are something that endears her to...
