Winner of the Richard and Judy Book Club Best Read of the Year Summer, 1924. On the eve of a glittering society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again. Winter, 1999. Grace Bradley, ninety-eight, one-time housemaid at Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken, and memories, long-consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge; something history has forgotten, but Grace never could . . .

    STORY FLOWS LIKE A RIVER!

In one word.....BEAUTIFUL! Kate Morton is an amazing story teller...m going to read her other two books now...n m sure they r going to be as satisfying as this one. If you like the Edwardian era, Victorian houses, beautiful women living in it, love stories with a lot of drama in it and every aspect of the book shouts out SUSPENSE.....then this is the book for.

    Nothing Extraordinary!

Just bought this one along with "The Secret Keeper". But unlike the other, the story line is very slow and picks up pace only towards the last few pages. It is definitely not the finish in one go kinds, as because of its slow pace you might want to put it down more often. Actually i think, i can give this one a miss, except if some one is a real fan of Victorian houses and the surrounding gardens.
