Description

The Last Poem is a novel written by Rabindranath Tagore, originally in Bengali, titled Shesher Kabita. It was translated to English by Dilip Basu. The paintings are done by Dinkar Kowshik.

Summary of the Book

This extremely enchanting romantic novel unfolds in the backdrop of a beautiful hill station of Shillong in north-eastern India. Considered as one of Tagore’s masterpieces, this title was serialised in the magazine called Probashi in the year 1928. The protagonist, Amit Ray, is a barrister educated at Oxford. He travels in order to escape the drudgery of his middle-class existence, and gets keenly involved in poetry and passion with the enigmatic and elegant Lavanya. Both of them discover their strengths, their flaws, their ambitions, and their follies in this unconditional love story, as they grow more and more intimate with each other.
