Description
Valmiki's Ramayana is the story of Rama's exile and return to Ayodhya, a triumphant king who will always do right by his subjects. In Volga's retelling, it is Sita who, after being abandoned by Purushottam Rama, embarks on an arduous journey to self-realization. Along the way, she meets extraordinary women who have broken free from all that held them back: husbands, sons, and their notions of desire, beauty and chastity. The minor women characters of the epic as we know it - Surpanakha, Renuka, Urmila and Ahalya - steer Sita towards an unexpected resolution. Meanwhile, Rama too must reconsider and weigh out his roles as the king of Ayodhya and as a man deeply in love with his wife. A powerful subversion of India's most popular tale of morality, choice and sacrifice, The Liberation of Sita opens up new spaces within the old discourse, enabling women to review their lives and experiences afresh. This is Volga at her feminist best.

Worth every single penny! Grab it before it slips!

This book altogether gives you vision,a different outlook towards the plight of women in mythology and also compels you to ask you innerself why only we believed in valmiki or the way a MAN had portrayed women! A rebel in its own kind,it surely opens the door for a much stronger perspective intermittently questioning and challenging the beliefs instilled within us!
P.S. impressed with flipkart Delivery was at its quickest.Nice buy!

Very Good

I ordered this book after reading all the positive reviews over the internet and here on flipkart. Turns out that they are all true. I was sad that I completed it in one day and would have enjoyed more if it was a little longer read.

This book goes against the currents of how we have perceived some mythological characters. It's a fresh and different perspective this book displays. This new characterisation forces you to think in a different way, to ask questions which we never asked. But th...

Delightful

Author's writing skills are highly appreciated. You can expect it as this book is a Sahitya Akadami award winner.
Five females are portrayed as pathetic which is not true except that for Ahalya. This book is highly feminist and that's why it sucks a little bit. Otherwise I would have given it full score. Message to author:- Surpanakha was not innocent. I repeat, she wasn't.
