    Summary of the Book

    Hans Castorp, the protagonist, is about to begin his career in shipbuilding in his hometown, Hamburg. Just before this, he visits his tubercular cousin who is looking for a remedy in a Davos sanatorium. But he would not be able to depart from there as he is affected by bronchial infection, which later becomes the symptoms of tuberculosis. He will have to remain in the sanatorium for seven long years. He then joins the military as the First World War breaks out at the time. Find out the rest in this timeless novel that intricately weaves the most complex of human emotions in times of bad health, war, love, peace and adversities.

    About Thomas Mann

    Thomas Mann was born in the year 1875 in Germany. He was twenty-five years old when his first novel, Buddenbrooks, was published. In the year 1924, The Magic Mountain was published. Mann was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1929 and the Goethe Prize in the year 1949. When the Nazis rose to power in Germany, he left the country for good in 1933. He went to Switzerland and then to California, where he penned Doctor Faustus. Some of the other notable novels written by Mann are The Will to Happiness, The Road to the Churchyard, A Weary Hour, Vision and Disillusionment.
