    Description

The McKinsey Way, by Ethan M. Rasiel, discusses how to use the techniques of the world’s top strategic consultants to help you and your business. It also explains the strategies used by the business consultancy firm, McKinsey & Company.

    Summary of the Book

The author, a former consultant with the McKinsey & Company, explains the principles and strategies that have made McKinsey a giant in the field of business management consultancy in the world today. It gives a framework that helps in dealing with different facets of problems and prioritizing them. It explains the process of gathering all the essential information and resources related to the problem or requirement. Coming up with definite solutions and selling the solution to the client, coping with life at the company and life after coming out of an esteemed company, are the other areas of focus of this book. The McKinsey style is based on the strong belief that all solutions should be driven by diverse theories, based on facts, and well-structured. Every business document has to conform to the mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive (MECE) framework. The consultants aim to arrive as close to an ideal solution to the problem at the initial stage itself. This is termed as the Initial Hypothesis. The book explains several such strategies at each stage of arriving at the solution – sell the idea to the client and help them implement the solutions.

the author take you through all that is needed and all that is done at mckinsey to approach and solve business problems. However, the book has valuable advise on interviewing, brainstorming, team bonding, analyzing and providing workable solution. Easy to read and relate

This is one of those books where you can relate things to real life as you go. It is very simple, very concise and very logical. Should not take more than 3 hours to read for an average reader. But the key lies in assimilating the learning of the author.

    Good Read

The book is a PR exercise for McKinsey. The author clearly states in 1st section that a McKinsey is bound by the laws of the company even after he quits the company so u can't expect any -ve views of the company. The Author clearly disguises the -ves of the company with a +ve spin which you start realizing at end of 2nd or 3rd Chapter.

Over all I recommend this book to all who are newbie to consulting or trying to explore career in consulting. Over all good read and some nice recommendatio...

    Know the way

It is a intriguing book that will keep you hooked, if you like like corporate stories. It might get boring for some but for me it was damn good. Being from a business research background, I could relate to a lot of things and learn about things in corporate that I was yet to learn as I am still new to this environment.
