The best of a lifetime of stories from a short story writer of rare distinction.

Ruskin Bond???s stories are predominantly set in the beautiful hill country of Garhwal where he has made his home for the last twenty-five years. Some of these stories present people who, consciously or otherwise, need each other: people in love or in need of love, the awkward adolescent and the timid lover. Some are gently satirical studies about village and small-town braggarts and petty officials.

Several others mourn the gradual erosion of the beauty of the hills (and the gentle people who live in them) with the coming of the steel and dust and worries of modern civilization. All the stories are rewarding for their compassionate portrayal of love, loss, accomplishment,

For those who love the simple things in life!

This was the first Ruskin Bond book that I bought and after that I've started collecting his books. This book has short simple stories...specially, stories of longing...stories which melt your heart. The book will be liked by those who love the simple things in life, those who love nature. I'm now a fan of Ruskin Bond!

    A colourful box of sweets

A classic Bond lover will love it no matter what. Beautiful, short tales from hills. One is transported to the evergreen world of Bond. Every story is similar at times but has its on flavour. Has few sweet love stories, stories of life, stories of death, stories unheard lives. Ruskin Bond is the eternal bachelor and champion of solitude.

Small stories, a bit less impressive for Ruskin Bond

I found the stories good but not good enough for the likes of Ruskin Bond.
Stories travel in a smooth phase, nice characterization but due to several short stories fail to make an impression.

You will fall in love for Bond ❤

Ruskin Bond, a name which will be remembered in upcoming decades for his short stories, not only sprays some literary glue elsewhere in his stories but he impregnates each word with love. The short love stories are the best gift you will ever get from anyone else. It's my second read in this journey and I don't want to derail myself from this 'himalayan walk' with Ruskin Bond. If you want to know what truly love feels like, Bond is there with his literary lights.

    GREAT BOOK

I LOVE IT. The best of a lifetime of stories from a short story writer of rare distinction. The stories are simple and thought provoking and pertain to the time the author spent as a child and teenager in the foothills of Himalayas i.e Dehra and Mussorrie.
Most of the stories run into 2 or 3 pages. There are a couple of them which were part of my English syllabus while I was studying in school.
