'No one does it better than Grisham' - Telegraph He was betrayed by the FBI. Now he wants revenge . . . Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of the USA only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett just became number five. His body was found in the small basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies - Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. I did not know Judge Fawcett, but I know who killed him, and why. I am a lawyer, and I am in prison. It's a long story. John Grisham knows how to keep us enthralled.

The book starts slowly so much so that the first 100 pages are on the verge of being truly boring. But then knowing John Grisham, you plod and soon hit pay dirt! You’re sucked up into an edge-of-the seat suspense thriller and like the hero in the book; sleep and food become ancillary to knowing what happens next in the plot that the hero and his friends hatch in jail and let fly by the skin of their collective teeth. The reward is their freedom, new identities and a pot of gold. Will they su...

    Refreshing read from Grisham!

After disappointing reads like Theodore Boone and The Confession, The Racketeer is a refresher from Grisham! I started reading this book in the train and couldn't put it down till lights didn't permit me to read any further.

The twists and turns keep you hooked till the very end. Its a clever plot and Grisham's extra-ordinary story telling skills are sure to keep you on the edge of the seat. The climax is sure to put you in awe of the master story-teller.

If you are looking for a fast pac...

    Good Read

A good book by Grisham. Started slowly but then gaining some pace. The suspense doesn't remain at last. but really well written book. When you start it you feel to go on with it not to stop.
the cover is the worst part of the book cause it tells you about the base, the suspense. but story is well plotted.
Don't read it for amazement or surprise at the end of the book.
But do read it for a Story.

    Grisham in form

The most basic thing that pulls me toward John Grisham's work is the ever present underlying notion that a common citizen against all odds and the hostility of the concerned
authorities can prevail and win. This book is just another instance of Grisham's familiar
reliabilty to entertain his fans and even his detractors. If you have an interest in sensible thrillers go for this one.

Pacy juicy story with filmy style

I got this book as a part of triple combo. I found this as one of his easy going book, twist and turns and then you realize that you are in mid of this face paced novel.

This is like text version of commercial movie, i dont think there is anything significant about its characters but over all its a good one time read.

I would go with 3 and half.

    quite awesome

i never intended to buy this book but ended up buying this one to avoid shipping charges in buying the book3 of shiva trilogy . I am new to John Grisham's books and bought this book as i thought it might be interesting but it turned out to be more than interesting. I have already finshed 15 chapters of the same even when the board exams are waiting for me in the following days. Mark my words 'its worth the money' .

    Page turner till the end!!

Interesting plot and brilliantly written. Readers can relate to what's going on and nothing seems too far fetched.Might seem a little monotonous in the beginning (strictly personal opinion though). As always carries with it the Grisham touch.
What i liked was the first person account of the protagonist. All charecters are well placed and carry their own significance. You would not find anyone left out in the middle. The book is gradually groovy, catches up and makes you stick to it.
    Overall, a m...

    He's back

Magnificent story line. All the twists and turns will keep you interested throughout. Reminded me of "The Brethren", which according to me is John's best book. Pick it up you won't be disappointed.
After the pre-booking part i had to wait for quite some time to get my hands on the book. But it was worth it.

    Good

The book was interesting till half way, until the plot was revealed and suddenly it seemed to be too easily pulled off, where everything that could go wrong, never went wrong with luck favouring every part of the badly made plan to make it successful. Still, the book was entertaining.
