    Description
Parshuraman Joshi, 27, handsome, Hindu - Brahmin, IT professional, settled in Canada, earns a high-figure salary.

These are credentials that would make any young man hot on the Indian wedding market, so it's no wonder that Parshuraman's family is inundated with matrimonial proposals. While so far all attempts to 'settle' him have gone kaput, he has bigger issues vexing him-such as Jennifer, his 'fireball' of a colleague and their efforts to save Project Infinite. To top it all, as the credit crisis grips the global economy, the little world he's created for himself begins to fall apart. Will he be able to pull himself together to face the challenges posed by a tough economy? More importantly, will this Recession Groom be able to find his 'perfect partner'?

    About the Author

I was born in Garian, Libya, in a traditional Hindu Punjabi family. My parents prized good education above all else and when I was still small, they decided to move base to Chandigarh, a modern city in the North of India, famed for its educational institutions. As a child, I loved reading, but writing stories of my own never occurred to me, much like everything else. Becoming a doctor wasnt an option, for the very sight of blood made me retch. Mathematics and Excel sheets bored me no end, leaving Humanities as a last resort. I could easily compete for the civil services, my parents reasoned, although, sitting for an exam with a million potential candidates vying for one job didnt make much sense to me. Fortunately, life took a better turn and it was a Masters degree in Economics alongside a programme in Mass Communications that set my foundation for a career in business journalism. Luckily, I got to work in some of the best organizations in India, like The Times of India and The Financial Express. In 2004, I was hit with the desire to write a novel. However, a few drafts and several ideas later, I gave it all up to pursue an MBA degree from Kingston University in London. Of course, I dreamt about MNC firms coveting me, the Deloittes and the McKinseys of the world chasing me with multiple job offers, the likes of Accenture begging me to work for them. The reality was quite different. The completion of my course coincided with the start of global recession and my dreams could never be realized. My situation, nevertheless, prompted me to write my first novel. So, it was all okay in the end.

The book is filled up with interesting characters who are always trying to make you laugh. Sometimes they get successful in that and sometimes it is just a PJ.

What do you do when you are in the middle of a boardroom meeting of a glamourous multinational company and your aunt calls you to discuss about your future bride? Read it in one go!!

It was so interesting that I had to read it all at once despite how busy I was.
The plot is really interesting and the scene setting of author is fabulous. I loved the character of Aunt Parvati (typical punjabi woman found in most families) and ofcourse the lead Parshuraman as I can relate to him in many situations. Overall it is a nice package to read that keep you binded by its plot till the end. Highly recommended to every reader.

    Good debut novel

Loved the whole trans-continental feel to the novel and easy to read language.. sympathized with Parshuraman and hated his sister! The most likeable characters easily were Nani and Jennifer and the ending was quite unpredictable.. great debut and all the best for the next book!

A hilarious fiction, easy flow of language and crisply edited story line

The predicament of Parshuraman as a recession groom though a fact,it is pitiable. the plight of marriagable boys/ girls with all screwed up priorities is portrayed by you authentically Nani ma is worldly wise and cute.Aunt Parvati is a typically overbearing Panju .However, this character needs to mellow down abit. Why so dramatic to the extent of being cruel?

    A must read!!

Came across an article on this book in the local paper. Being a resident of Chandigarh for the past 30 odd years, a beautiful dreamy town in North India, I was curious what would an author from this city be like. Well I have to say, the author ‘ Vani ‘ has been very true to her soil . Vani has beautifully captured the life of an IT professional born and bred in the city , who then moves further to become an NRI. All the dilemmas of a young NRI IT professional; from resisting a sassy hot co-wo...

    Entertaining

Storyline: Interesting, realistic, engaging and entertaining.

The book delves into the institution of marriage in the Indian context where the family plays a major role in hunting for a prospective bride/ groom for an eligible bachelor/ spinster in the family and why not after all marriage as per Indian belief is one that brings not two people but two families together. So here in ‘The Recession Groom’ we have an eligible bachelor in the protagonist Parshuraman Joshi a successful IT professi...
