Mary Lennox, a troubled 10-year-old, was not fond of people and people did not like her. However, when she meets Colin, a mysterious child, this changes and she learns to enjoy the little things in life.

    Summary of the Book

Mary Lennox is a spoilt and temperamental ten-year-old who never got along with people. Her wealthy parents never gave her any love and did not have time for her. When her parents die in a cholera epidemic, she is sent to London to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven. Here, she is told that she will not be given too much attention and she must learn to keep herself amused. Martha, a maidservant, narrates the story of Mrs. Craven and her walled garden to young Mary, who cannot stop thinking of the story. At night, Mary always hears the sound of a child crying, but when she speaks of it to the servants, they deny it. It is said that Mrs. Craven’s garden of roses was locked by a heartbroken Mr. Craven and the key was hidden. Mary finds this key when her friend, a robin redbreast, loosens some soil in the garden. This is the key to the secret garden where Mary finds a well-kept secret and the beginning of Mary’s journey to happiness.

    Fair

The story is good and is an appreciative book. But the paper quality is fine but not very good. Never expected this from Puffin classics

    Mistress Mary Quite Contrary

I love this book a lot.It is humorous book.It makes one look at the world with a child like wonder and pick up your gardening tools. This book is a good read for ages 9-12.What I didn't like about this book was that, India was portrayed a little negatively.Well you can't blame the author as the book was published in 1910 when India was still a British Colony. The manner in which the Indian rajah used to dismiss people was funny. Its a good thing India is a democracy and there are no rajah's to s...

    IT REALLY IS A "CLASSIC"

This book is an amazing spectator of a vision,or a story..a story of a little orphaned girl.the astonishment as she stares at life right in the eye,and keeps on growing up in the most beautiful of ways.
Nature and Spring is the main theme of this book.you could literally feel the cool british summer winds ruffling your hair..the landscape of England dominates the mood of the protagonist and hence the book.she goes onto find a garden that has been lost for a decade,oh and the mere thought of h...

If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.

This book has some funny, strange and misterious scenes. It is just the book for me and I think many can find just a piece of themselves in this book. I felt warm how garden and life in it presented life in our actual world. If you tend it a thistle cannot grow.
Coming from India into a large house in England, from being taking care of by servants to being alone, the journey for Mary begins. Mary Lennox is an uninviting, cranky little girl who wants everything she thinks of, but the life at h...
