The Shadow Throne displays taut writing and nail-biting suspense in a debut that is chillingly believable. Will this unlikely trio succeed in navigating the treacherous, shadowy politics of India and Pakistan?

A mysterious murder at the Qutub Minar triggers a call to ace journalist Chandrasekhar from his cop acquaintance, Inspector Syed Ali Hassan. The victim is unlike anyone Chandra has ever seen: a white Caucasian male who has all the looks of a throwback to Greek antiquity. Soon after, Hassan calls in to report the case has been taken away from him in all likelihood by RAW the Research & Analysis Wing, the uber-agency of Indian intelligence.

What began as a murder enquiry soon morphs into a deadly game of hide-and-seek within the shadowy world of Pakistan’s ISI and India’s RAW; and Chandra, his friend history professor Meenakshi Pirzada and Hassan find themselves in a race against time to avert a sub-continental nuclear holocaust. As the action moves to its hair-raising climax among the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan, Chandra must face up to the fact that Inspector Hassan is not all that he seems…

Fantastic books and other top Indian books and Authors

A very good attemp as a new comer. Well said by Flipkart. India's answer to Dan Brown. I think India is answering in a nice way by producing talented new authors. Some of them I have mentioned below.I am a vivid reader and read almost all the books that come my way.

    1. I too had a love story - Ravinder Singh
    2. That's the way we met - Sudeep Nagarkar
    3. How I braved Any Aunty - Varun Aggarwal
    4. The Backbenchers - Siddharth Oberoi
    5. The immortals of Melhua- Amish Tripathi

    A time-pass read

Book starts off well with good detailing and taut suspense. The premise is well-researched. But once you know the culprits midway, there's little surprise left. Writing is shoddy in latter half and climax is straight out of a bollywood movie. It feels like writer was in hurry to finish off the book.
Language is good but I hate the use of Hindi (the Chetan Bhagat style) in conversations.

To sum it up, as an espionage thriller (very rarely tried genre in India) it's a good attempt and I'll be...

Riveting Thriller! Engaging India-Pakistan in a critical endgame!

I came across the blurb of "The Shadow Throne" online and I just had to read it, not only because the writer was a senior from JNU (which I found out later!), but primarily because my first thriller, "Red Jihad: Battle for South Asia" (that was released by Rupa & Co recently) dealt with Indian Special Forces joining hands with the Pakistani SSG to fight a Pakistani Jihadis-Indian Naxalites nexus that aimed to launch an Indian Missile at Pakistan (thereby falsely implicating India in the proce...

    THE SHADOW THRONE

    A vey good first novel.
But the story gets into fantasy land at the end. The adventurous escape at the end transcends belief. The characters all black or white - no shades of grey. Having said all that the plot unfolds in a systematic manner.
RAW gets magnified beyond belief- and the politicians on either side of fece are made to look like dummies. The parents intrude into the novel , much like the songs that intrude into a hindi movie or a comic relief in a serious melodrama. the novel could ...

May be the best thriller in Indian author

I bought the book without expecting too much out of it. It was for my flight journey from kochi to Mumbai. The book never disappointed me at any time, I can say that the book was well narrated and was amazingly fast placed. My 2 hour and odd journey seemed like a few minutes. In fact I finished the book getting down from aircraft and sitting at the airport. Every character is explained appropriately and is given at most important

Pick up this marvelous book, you will trust me enjoy this susp...

    Great Debut

Disclosure: I have known the author for long, 30 plus years in fact. Review: Aroon had shared the broad storyline with me a few months before the book was released. My initial reaction was a bit sceptical, what with nuclear bombs, Pakistan, RAW, IB and all, and wondered whether it would all stitch together into a credible whole. But I kept a straight face and the thoughts to myself. I was among the first to buy the book, through a pre-order, though thrillers are not really up my street, and f...
