    Description
A fascinating journey into the human brain by a leading neuroscientist

The brain remains a mystery to us. How can a three-pound mass of jelly that can fit in our palm imagine angels, contemplate the meaning of infinity, and even question its own place in the cosmos? Renowned neuroscientist Prof. V.S. Ramachandran takes us on a fascinating journey into the human brain by studying patients who exhibit bizarre symptoms and using them to understand the functions of a normal brain.

Along the way he asks big questions:
    How did abstract thinking evolve?
    What is art?
    Why do we laugh?
How are these hardwired into the neural mechanisms of the human brain, and why did they evolve?

Brilliant, lucid, and utterly compelling, The Tell-Tale Brain is a path- breaking book from one of the leading neuroscientists.

    About The Author

Newsweek named him a member of ‘The Century Club’, and one of the ‘one hundred most prominent people to watch’ in the twenty-first century.

The awesomeness of 1.5kgs of Jelly

I have never read a book over 200 pages. This book is about 400 pages and I am enjoying reading it. The book might be about the most complex organ in Human Body, but its written in the most simple manner possible with an engaging conversational style.

Inspite of being a world reputed Neurologist, the experiments Mr. Ramachandran uses is very simple but effective. Just shows how doctors today have become too addicted to technology.

All you need to enjoy the book is the simple curiosity of h...

The Brain sure tells an exciting tale.

I bought the book after reading the reviews and gazing into its 5 Star rating for unreasonably long time. The author treats the brain as a black box and tries to understand its functionality by studying patients with physiological brain abnormality resulting in phantom limbs, synaesthesia, apraxia, autism etc.

    Must read :
Chapter 6,the power of babble delves into evolution of language Chapter 7,On what makes us like what we like and what the world likes in general(aesthetics).

A great journey to the depths of the brain

I was actually surprised after starting to read the book since I had not expected this much information to have been piled up into a single book . The novel ideas and research that he puts down and weaves each theory with the next one to explain the basic essence of the whole chapter.

All in all a must read if you want to know a great deal about the brain! You wont be disappointed the least bit.

A brilliant journey through the brain

When I first started reading the book, 'The Tell-Tale Brain', it was with a lot of anticipation, for I had recently been introduced to linguistics and cognitive sciences and it was fantastic. The book promised a lot, for Ramachandran is a celebrated neuroscientist and the book (Random House India publications one) had a quote from the one and only Richard Dawkins, which named Ramachandran the "Marco Polo of Neuroscience". The name of Marco Polo carries with it connotations of describing somet...
