  • Description

The Tiny Seed is the story of a small seed that embarks on a long journey. During the course of the story, the life cycle of a plant is explained.

    Summary Of The Book

This book is a wonderful way to introduce young children to the life cycle of plants. The Tiny Seed concentrates on a seed that is among a group of seeds dispersed by a plant in autumn. It floats on the wind with the other seeds.

Many big seeds also fly along with it. But, most of them are lost on the way. Some get burnt by the sun’s heat and some fall in arid places where they can never take root and sprout. As it is so small and light, it floats on and on, and at last falls on a land where it has a chance to grow into a big plant.

However, the seed’s journey is not yet over, and nor are the dangers it has to face. Many other seeds that came along with it are eaten by birds and mice. Summer comes and the remaining seeds sprout. But, one flower is trampled beneath a human foot and another is plucked and given as a gift to a loved one. The little seed still struggles on against all odds, trying to fulfil its own destiny to grow into a plant and disperse its own seeds to start the cycle again.

The Tiny Seed is a lovely tale to read to small children. Accompanied by colorful collage illustrations, it teaches children several lessons. It shows how plants begin growing from a seed, and then produce their own seeds, which in turn try to grow into plants.

The book also provides opportunities for many activities based on it. It can help children remember the various seasons the seed passes through. It can be used to help children learn to count and sort seeds, and to help them identify the seeds of different plants.

    Life lesson through plant lifecycle!!!

Eric Carle colorfully illustrates a life lesson through a story about the life cycle of a seed...and shows that it's not always the biggest, fastest or highest flying seed that makes the most beautiful flower but the most persistent ones do and being small is ok.
Though a little verbose, and little realistic – seeds get drowned, burnt etc. But overall a lovely book with nice illustrations. My little one loves it and so do I.
