  • Description
You would think that life for Nirvan Shrivastav and his chums, Adi and Faraz, within the precincts of the prestigious co-ed Shore Mount boarding school - where the rich and connected from all over India and outside send their progeny to study and learn - would be a happy and benign one, isolated from the evils of everyday existence. But the pressure of competing with older brothers and uncles whose names adorn the honour rolls, or on the playing fields, or for the romantic attentions of a classmate, or in class, can become an ugly and violent affair; and not tattling on your classmates - no matter what they might have done - is the one inviolable code of honour. So when Nirvan is called upon to denounce the particularly nasty doings of his classmate, he is naturally uncertain of what to do. A coming-of-age novel with an amazing ability to capture the tone and nuances of its young protagonist's speech, THIRD BEST is a fascinating portrayal of life in an Indian boarding school - minus the sugar-coating.

    Must Read

I saw the back cover of this book and got enticed in buying it because of the boarding school setting. And I was not disappointed. I feel this is one of the best books to come out on this plot. The characters are someone you can relate to, the story is nice and not mundanely predictable and on a whole, the book has a very nice feeling to it. For all those who had to face peer pressure and have experienced the weight of expectations in their student life, this is a must-read and even otherwise...

*THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ*

'Third Best' is my favorite book. It just captures your attention like anything, like from the first page you read, you can't put the book down. Very real characters, awesome English, written with extreme compassion and efficiency.
It will impress anyone like me, who has always kind of wanted to experience hostel life- the 'mountain feeling', the 'walking in your dorm late at night' feeling, the 'cafeteria food feeling'.
This book has it all. From heartbreaking, soul-touching rejections to e...

Exciting story of a residential school

It is a exciting story of a residential school. Children should study it as this book is about how to live in a residential school so that we can make our good image to our seniors, friends, teachers, and housemasters so our housemasters can make us the Head of the Shore Mounts. According to me, in this book, you should have a dictionary with you for seeing some words which are difficult to understand.
