Description

Thomas Calculus 11th Edition is a book that aims to help its readers master their calculus skills in order for them to excel in the calculus courses that they choose.

Summary Of The Book

Thomas Calculus is a book that focuses on the concepts of calculus, and helps to equip the readers to excel in it, in their respective courses. An important fact is highlighted here, which is that even though school students are aware of the basics of calculus, they are usually unable to excel in it when they choose it in their courses later on.

The authors point out that this defect is mostly due to the fact that the students lack a good grounding in the concepts of trigonometry, and algebra as well. The book is inclusive of extensive exercises, and illustrations that are helpful in understanding the concepts relatively easier. The table of contents of this book is also well made, and groups all the topics into neat sections. This is highly useful for instructors even when they draft out their teaching plans.

Differentiation, Integration, Multiple Integrals, Transcendental Functions, Infinite, and Series are some of topics that have been covered in this book. All in all, this book is a must-have for students as well as lecturers, who want to gain a solid understanding of calculus.

About The Authors

The author of this book, Maurice D. Weir, is also a renowned professor of applied mathematics, from America.

Apart from this book, Weir has published a number of other educational books as well. Some of the books written by Weir include A First Course In Mathematical Modeling, Differential Equations: A Modeling Approach, and Calculus For Engineers And Scientists.

Weir holds a BS degree from Whitman College (1961), followed by an MS degree from Carnegie-Mellon (1963). He later went on to obtain a DA degree from Carnegie-Mellon, in the year 1970. He has also been awarded for his contribution towards the field of mathematics. Weir’s research interests lie in Mathematics Education, and Combat Systems Modeling and Simulation.

Joel Hass is also a renowned mathematician from America.

Apart from this book, Hass has also authored How To Ace Calculus: The Streetwise Guide, Thomas’ Calculus Student’s Solutions Manual, Part One: Early Transcendentals, and University Calculus, Early Transcendentals, Multivariable Student’s Solutions Manual.

Hass holds a doctoral degree from University Of California, Berkeley, which he completed in the year 1981. In the year 2012, Hass became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. He currently works as a lecturer at University Of California, Davis, teaching Mathematics.

Nice calculus book for jee preparation !

This book is certainly one of the best calulus books available in the market. Some of the problems are not of the JEE-level but this one is very good for strengthening your concepts.Alongwith this I would also recommend Problems in Calculus of One Variable by IA Maron.Purchase both of these and you will not need anything else.

best book but be cautious of some sellers on Flipkart

11th edition(and not 12th) of Thomas' Calculus(And not book Calculus and Analytic Geometry) is recommended for every IIT aspirant who wants to make good base of calculus from simple, easy to understand and easy problems. Overall best book to begin with basic course in Calculus but only 3 star as the Book I received from Flipkart has 10 blank pages. To add to horror it seems is second hand book as I can see Label "OneBuy.in" and pencil written inventory number. Needless to mention book is d...
