    Description

Mariam is only fifteen when she is sent to Kabul to marry Rasheed. Nearly two decades later, a friendship grows between Mariam and a local teenager, Laila, as strong as the ties between mother and daughter. When the Taliban take over, life becomes a desperate struggle against starvation, brutality and fear. Yet love can move a person to act in unexpected ways, and lead them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with a startling heroism.

Enlightening story about women of Afghanistan, love, loss, war and hope!

I'm so glad that I read "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I learned about so many things about Afghanistan I wasn't aware of like Soviate invasion, mujahideen, taliban & then cleanup by America.

There is heartache, joy, tenderness, pain, regret, sacrifice,..so much enfolded into this masterpiece and told with such depth you can almost feel the oppression that the women lived through.

"A man's accusing finger always finds a woman."
-Khaled Hosseini, A Thousand Splendid Suns

    Overall, it was a beau...

One of the best books I have ever read. Truly Magnificent !!!

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”

As a kid Mariam's heart is broken by a person whom she adored the most, then loses the Nana who cared only for her....
Rasheed is the cunning, manipulative devil who makes the lives of Mariam and Laila a burning hell...
Tariq is the Love Laila yearns for in pain and smiles...
Laila is the daughter who sees her mother's pain and father's helplessness
    All these people endure...

    this book can rattle you!

You are one person before you read this book. And you are a fully changed person AFTER you complete the book. Having a poignant plot, this book will make you appreciate every little thing, & will make you realise just how fortunate you are. The pain, the suffering and the sacrifices described in this book truly provide a great insight into the depths of courage and love. Unlike THE KITE RUNNER, in this book, you will be unable to figure out the aptness of the title, until you reach the very l...

    Biggest mistake of my life!

This book is pirated. Don't buy this one. This seller sells pirated books. You can clearly see the cheap photocopying and cover. I compared it with the genuine one and there was no mistake this was pirated.
Although the story of this book is f*** unbelievable. I've never cried so much after reading a book. Such a devastating story. It's a must read.
Buy the genuine copy please. It helps the writer.

Great book, not to be missed, never!

A sequel to the book The Kite Runner; only this time the protagonist is a girl. Same on the lines of The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns is a work of great repute. I read both the books and I am really happy that I bought them and read them from cover to cover. I strongly recommend these books.

    A splendid tale indeed!

Hosseini has yet again pulled off another masterpiece since his debut bestseller 'The Kite Runner'. A heartbreaking story of a girl living in the never ending troubled times of Afganistan. Hosseini really has got that special talent to go very minute detail of the characters and the setup where the characters have been portrayed. But you got to have a lot of patience to get to the last page of the book.
    A must read.

    Awesome, Heartbreaking and Hope-giving

My first read of Khalid Hosseini. Yes, I know, I havent read Kite runner yet but I am gonna do it shortly. History of Afghanistan and the state of people there, especially women has always been by topic of interest (sadly though). After reading the review about this book I was more than inspired to take up this book and invest my time on this. And guess what, am glad that I did read this book.

A beautifully written tale of helplessness of women in Afghanistan, ridiculous cruelty that humanit...
