  • Description

Three Men in a Boat is a comic tale of the adventures of three men and a dog by Jerome K. Jerome.

    Summary of the Book

When three men get bored of their monotonous lives, they begin to debate what would be a good escape for a few days. These men are hypochondriacs who have completely convinced themselves that they are overworked and are suffering from some strange illness. They consider several options and decide to go on a boating trip, eliminating the option of adventuring on the vast blue seas. They decide to sail on the Thames, from Kingston to Oxford. Jerome, George and Harris set out on their journey with a fox terrier named Montmorency. What follows is a slapstick series of events, hilarious in all their glory. A camping embargo leads them to discover the troubles of tents and camping stoves, trying to learn to play the bagpipes turns into a hilariously impossible event, and they discover that barometers are darn unreliable when it comes to forecasting the weather!

    • Jerome Klapka Jerome (2 May 1859 – 14 June 1927) was an English writer and humorist, best known for the humorous travelogue Three Men in a Boat.

\n\n Jerome was born in Caldmore, Walsall, England, where he is honoured in a display at Walsall Museum, and was brought up in poverty in London.

\n\n Jerome was the fourth child of Jerome Clapp (who later renamed himself Jerome Clapp Jerome), an ironmonger and lay preacher who dabbled in architecture, and Marguerite Jones. He had two sisters, Paulina and Blandina, and one brother, Milton, who died at an early age. Jerome was registered, like his father\'s amended name, as Jerome Clapp Jerome, and the Klapka appears to bea later variation (after the exiled Hungarian general Gyorgy Klapka). Owing to bad investments in the local mining industry, the family suffered poverty, and debt collectors often visited, an experience Jerome described vividly in his autobiography My life and Times (1926).

\n\n The young Jerome wished to go into politics or be a man of letters, but the death of both his parents in 1872, when he was 13 years old, forced him to quit is studies and find work to support himself. He was employed at the London and North Western Railway, initially collecting coal that fell along the railway, and remained there for four years.

\n\n In 1877, inspired by his older sister Blandina\'s love for the theatre, Jerome had had decided to try his hand at acting, under the stage name Harold Crichton.

Read this if you fly HIGH

I was recommended this book by a friend in college, and even though I did not read it through, we did have a lot of sessions when one in the group used to read out his favorite part, mostly with a few beers ...

Please do not read this book when high ... you might never stop laughing :P :P

    Good fun book

I found the book really humorous and a good book to read while traveling in a bus or train. I even gave my neighbour a jolt a couplke of times when I sudddenly burst out laughing.

A book really worth reading and once it is read, you will want to read it over and over again.

    Great book, good product

5 stars for the book itself and 4 stars for the product. The font is quite small but I cannot complain at this price. I bought this book to pad another sub-500 order, so that I could avail the free delivery option for the total amount over Rs. 500. Great book. It tastes like like a cocktail of Mark Twain and Somerset Maugham. The humour hits you when you expect it the least !

    Thumbs up!!

    Bhavika Jain(9th)Mind Tree School
The novel, THREE MEN IN A BOAT(to say nothing of the dog), acquiring cross-continental reach narrates the dramatic design of the author Jerome along with his two friends- George and Harris with the dog escorting them. The humorous rendering incident is the chief quality of the narrative. The humor does not lie in the plot but in the timeless incidents. It is an amusing account of the expedition between Kingston and Oxford. Indeed, a perfect guidebook and a tr...

    Non-stop humour

A non-stop humor novel originally intended to be a travelogue in near london river side areas. Throughout the novel, the author cracks the readers with small flashbacks of the fictional characters to enrich us with information of what to do and what not to do during such travels. My fav is the cheese story, the paraffin story flashbacks.
You would never laugh out as much as when reading it equaling to piles of humor novels you might have read.

The book is medium sized against my expectation ...
