Tokyo Cancelled is the debut novel by the British-Indian novelist, Rana Dasgupta. It was short-listed for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Summary of the Book Tokyo Cancelled is the tale of thirteen passengers getting stranded in an airport. Each of them start narrating a tale to pass time, all of which sums up to the novel belonging to the magic realist genre or irrealism. The fairy-tale like visualisation link all the short stories together by several elements, including globalization, making this title a collection of fairy-tales from the contemporary world. The book was also short-listed for the Hutch Crossword Book Award. One of the tales included was shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Prize. About Rana Dasgupta Rana Dasgupta was born in 1971, and grew up in Cambridge. He worked for a marketing consultancy in London and New York for a few years before moving to Delhi to write the current title, a thirteen-part story cycle. Tokyo Cancelled was published in 2005 to widespread acclaim and has been translated into nine languages. Rana Dasgupta currently lives in Delhi.
