  • Description

"In this delightful collection, Ruskin Bond introduces us to the Dehradun he knows intimately and loves unreservedly—the town that he had spent many years of his childhood and youth in. A town which, when he knew it, was one of pony-drawn tongas and rickshaws; a town fond of gossip but tolerant of human foibles; a town of lush lichi trees, charming winter gardens and cool streams; a small town, a sleepy town, a town called ‘Dehra’. With classic stories and poems like ‘Masterji’, ‘Growing up with Trees’ and ‘A Song for Lost Friends’ and previously unpublished treasures like ‘Silver Screen’, ‘Dilaram Bazaar’ and ‘Lily of the Valley’, this anthology is replete with journal entries, extracts from the author’s memoirs and, of course, poetry, non-fiction and stories set in or inspired by Dehra. Evocative, wistful and witty as only Ruskin Bond can be, A Town Called Dehra is a celebration of a dearly-loved town as well as an elegy for a way of life gone extinct."

    Highly recommended

Vintage Bond at his even best in this collection. Just like another joyride through the memory lane. Debra is everywhere collected in the memory of the enchanting author. A good buy as always.

    A beautiful nostalgia

This book was a delight chiefly because I am from dehra and could relate to Ruskin Bond's nostalgia of days gone by.But its a great book to recall your own carefree childhood and relish the memories.Tender boyhood memories, replete with old photographs followed by mild dissappointments at how the town has changed which is not conveyed bitterly and the writer chooses to take things in his stride make it a beautiful book.

    Awesome..

For all Doonites... best for who were born in 80's...Takes you through the memory lane such a nostalgia you would want to live once more and always. Ruskin has always been terrific in his own style of story telling ...A must read...... i am looking forward to read more books from this great writer...

    Pretty good

Have excerpts from other RB books. If you have read most of RB's, then this books is just a collection of pictures from his childhood. Pictures are the only things that attracted me.

    Wonderful

This book reflects the damage done to a beautiful city by Indians and what we must conserve. It talks about the lost days of a beautiful city
