Transactions of Belonging is a collection of contemporary short stories by Jaya Padmanabhan.
Summary of the Book
Bringing together a medley of characters who examine a wide tapestry of images, Jaya Padmanabhan's debut work stands on the brink of poetic expression and tragic prose. In stories such as Mustard Seeds, readers are introduced to a family which is slowly destroyed because of their political beliefs. Swishing forwards and back in time, the story explores multiple endings and leaves the reader with the chance to explore the ending in their own thoughts. His Curls pulls readers to a mother who wonders if her son has taken up extremism and has become a terrorist. The vivid imagery that Ms. Padmanabhan favours drags readers into the mindset of the characters and the pace drives the story forward. This is a collection which any fan of contemporary fiction will enjoy.
