Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description

Twilight In Delhi: A Novel is a book that delves deep into the Indian history and is one of the first novels that called for the liberation of India from the British rule.

    Summary Of The Book

The novel is set in 1911, and features a merchant, Mr Nihal, who is the protagonist. Mr. Nihal recalls with amazing clarity the famous Sepoy Mutiny and the Revolt of 1857, and how cruel the British were in repressing it.

Nihal, of an upper-class Muslim upbringing, is described in detail along with his family in Twilight In Delhi: A Novel, and mainly his youngest son, Asghar. There is much talk of how he is a wayward person, and his character is rather volatile. Asghar’s marriage is also described at length.

Twilight In Delhi: A Novel recounts the Delhi of old with vivid imagery, evoking memories of a city steeped in old-school architecture and winding streets full of bazaars. The book effectively captures the highlights of the British rule at that point, including memorable occasions like the coronation of King George V as the official Emperor of India.

Twilight In Delhi: A Novel is mostly written in pensive mood, with Nihal recalling a number of atrocities perpetrated by the British government. Through the characters and dialogue, Ahmed Ali subtly calls for Indian independence.

Whether talking about the Home Rule movement or the Sepoy Mutiny, or describing the pre-independence Delhi or the idiosyncrasies of a child, Nihal’s recollections are poignant and nostalgic. Twilight In Delhi: A Novel is a tribute to India’s strength and endurance.

    Vivid Picture of Pre-Independence Delhi

Twilight in Delhi is a novel by Ahmed Ali set in the pre-independence era. The main protagonist is Mir Nihal, the head of the household of an upper middle class Muslim family in Delhi. The chapters paint a picture of Delhi of the time, giving a feeling that things were not hurried and moving at a sedate pace. I often felt wanting to get myself transported into that era in order to escape the hustle and bustle of today’s life.

The story revolves around Mir Nihal’s family and Asghar, his young...

    Amazingly written

i've just started reading this book and i'm already fallinhg in love with the way Delhi is represented here! only a rooted person can explain things like that!
awesome way of explaining things and a perfect description of then-Delhi
i started getting goosebumps as i kept on reading it and i just love how there is a poetic phrase (by great Delhi poets of that time!) put perfectly almost everywhere to give the reader the feel of how people felt about this place and how it tore them apart to see...

    An easy and interesting read

The book sheds light on Delhi in the early 1900s with fictional characters. This is a part of Delhi's history that has been lost but has simultaneously been preserved by this book. It would be great to visit Old Delhi while reading the book.

    Pure Delight

Ahmad Ali was a true Dilliwalla at heart who had to find shelter in Pakistan (unwillingly till his last breath) after the partition owing to the diplomatic mess that ensured he could never return to India. A pioneer of the writing movement in pre-partition India that made Indian literature put its mark on the world map. Sadly, his beautiful writings have vanished into oblivion (read out of print).

    Authentic Voice from Old Delhi

Traversing hurdles created by publishers in Britain, this book’s publication was made possible by none other than Virginia Woolf. First published in 1940, the book gained immediate prominence and acclaim in India, only to be lost and re-found in post-partition India. Set in pre-partition India, the novel conjures a magical world of Old Delhi, “delves into history, bringing the past alive; it is a moving portrayal of the slow and steady decay of an entire culture and way of life”. Enthused wit...

    My book has pages repeating

I am not reviewing the novel here. just the copy I have has pages repeating. It is disappointing when one reaches page 272 to see that it repeats 234 to 272! I don't expect this from a proper copy - it may be justified if I had purchased a pirated version.

Poetic record of a vanished culture..

Regarded as one of remarkable modern Islamic literature, Ali Ahmed's Twilight in Delhi was first published in 1940, but was almost forgotten when most of the books' stock was destroyed in a fire, till it was resurrected again in 1964.. till then the book has gone ahead to claim many critical acclaims for the work that somewhat proves that it transcends the language in which it is written, in slowing down the reader's pace to narrate the minutest of rituals in Chandni Chowk of 1911, but not b...

    RARE NOVEL

Ahmed Ali has brilliantly captured the essence of prewar Delhi. The characterization, story and details are lovely. The poetic description goes well with the culture of Delhi where the greatest poets of all time, Ghalib, Zauq and Daag used to live. Not just that, the novel focuses on the most important truth of life that Empires decline, love dies, trees get cut and flowers die BUT LIFE GOES ON….

AND THIS SHER FOR THE WRITER:
