This book is based on critical feminist reading of select Delhi High Court judgments pronounced in the 1990s. It focuses upon the phenomenon of female criminality and the pervasiveness of the disciplinary power of law in our lives. Through an overview of existing studies on female criminality in India and the interaction with the working(s) of the law and the legal system, this engagement pushes our understanding of law from an instrument of control and mode of social transformation to mere rhetoric. Not to argue for the futility of engaging with law but emphasizing the need to look at it closely and critically.
