    Description

India is a country which started from scratch after attaining independence. But as years passed we grew as a country and brought about a lot of reforms which made us grow in various ways. An Uncertain Glory: India and its Contradictions is a book which emphasises on factors which are stopping the country from reaching its pinnacle.

    Summary of the Book

An Uncertain Glory: India and its Contradictions is a compilation of two great economists’ thoughts about how the country’s progress is being pulled back by the lack of attention paid to the poor. Although India has grown as a country and has had multiple economic reforms the quality of life is extremely poor for some. An Uncertain Glory: India and its Contradictions focuses on the fact that a better understanding about human deprivations needs to be given.

A powerful examination of the forgotten side of India’s economy.

While the media focuses on economic growth rates, Jean Dreze and Amartya Sen focus on how the popular opinion is biased, making the country look more like oases in the midst of the burning desert sands. It’s about how India’s economy has achieved rapid growth over the years and yet it lacks severely behind in the scale of social indicator of living standards. Hopelessly Disastrous Quality

Let me make it clear that here am not talking bout the quality of the content of the book. Any book by Sen & Dreze is obviously good. my point here is about the paper quality. Very low quality papers even in comparison to the normal Penguin recycled papers. am very much disappointed..

    Superb!

Very detailed research of India's situation. Amartya Sen gives a systematic and extensive critique of India's current scenario in health care, education, women's rights, administration etc. He gives numbers to justify each and every aspect. Research cannot be more extensive. Brilliant! An eye-opener.

    Review

Good book, provides a different and more holistic views about the day to day matters concerning the nation. With the middle class or the educated lot hooked to books and urban environment we tend to overlook the hardships faced by the masses. This book will help us get a different perspective.
