the best anthology of the inimitable sardar's writing

Although I rolled my eyes at yet another Khushwant Singh book, I ordered this anyway as a gift, but ended up reading almost all of it. The introduction by David Davidar and piece by Khushwant's daughter Mala are wonderful, warm and insightful.
This is probably the best anthology of his writing and covers everything from his novels, autobiography to the translations he did of Punjabi short stories and Urdu poetry.
It has ninety-nine pieces for every day of his life and thus the title - which ...

Assortment of the best - 99

The name Khushwant Singh for a large section of people might evoke thoughts of someone who is famous for dirty jokes, or his tryst with women, but Khushwant Singh was much more than that. He was perhaps one of the most prolific writers who has done seminal work in the field of journalism and literature.
99 is an assortment, of a wide fifteen genres in which his work has been divided in this book. From his early life to his editorial stint to his novels to his trials with poetry, 99 is a must ...

You are missed Mr. Singh !

It is an anthology. I was young and uninterested when he wrote columns. This anthology gave me a chance to know him and I really really want him around now. His prose, commentary, his take on political situations and life,it is all so real - you connect almost immediately.

It has 99 different pieces and when the book ended, I felt sad. Sad for the fact that after him we have no one who can write with 'son-of -a -gun' kind of flair. There are preening and smug writers who hide behind words...

Most entertaining and yet factual

No long drawn out chapters - each one 2 - 3 pages, succinct. The author accepts if his beliefs have turned out to be wrong - its a very entertaining book. Nothing that can bore. Plus as the different chapters have headings that are indicative of the topic, one can skip matters that are of no interest to the reader. It can be read in fits and starts - and be just as entertaining.
I have new found respect for the most secular man I have come to know. He faults all religions where blame must li...

Very Nice Book

Great Book. The collection is truly representative of the best of Khushwant Singh.

Book was delivered on time. It was well packaged and in a good condition when I received it. The price on Flipkart was much lower than that available in bookstores.
