    Description

When others are greedy be fearful and when others are fearful be greedy?-ill-timed bouts of greed and fear among investors make stock markets volatile. Ratinal and successful investing is all about restraining and channelizing these emotions and understanding behavioral finance, not market sentiments, crowd behavior or company performances.

At a time when market upheavals are eroding investors? confidence, dooming life?s earnings and corporate fortunes, and shipping up mass hysteria-Value Investing and Behavioral Finance comes as an antidote to investor anxiety and a guide to sane and safe investment decisions. Using investing trends in Indian capital markets over the last three decades, it shows how collective behavioral biases affect investment decisions, returns and market vagaries. As a corrective, it spells out long-term value and contrarian investing strategies based on the principles of behavioral finance.

Further, it advises on how to spot investment opportunities and pitfalls in commodity stocks, growth stock, PSUs, IPOs, sectors and index stocks. It also alerts the reader to a `bubble? or crisis situation, and ways to identify and insure against it.

Value Investing and Behavioral Finance, a timely offering from a seasoned investment strategist, is a must read for stock brokers, bankers, lay investors, portfolio manager, fund manager, and students of finance.

Adds value to investing literature, but not very much

Parikh does a decent job of applying the numerous ideas and concepts of Value-Investing to the Indian stock market and also introduces behavioural finance. The latter, he does well especially as he provides examples from the Indian business landscape, but the former he does not do so well.
Ignoring the numerous grammar and syntax mistakes (which I am appalled exist in a published book), Parikh loyally recites all of the usual arguments as to why equity investing is necessary, stock picking s...

Fantastic book on the practical side of value investing in India

While there are sections on value investing in the beginning, that are generic and can be found anywhere (including on the author's company website), the real value of the book is in the second half.

In the second half, the author covers topics on how to uncover value in public sector companies, cyclical companies, or in an index fund. The analysis is fantastic, and the book gives an amazing understanding of the practice of value investing.

    A fine book

Its a fine book... but if one wants to understand more about investing.. I would recommend him to read the Intelligent Investor of Graham

The book is very very repetitive.... and much of it is the same thing which is there in all the other know authors books written before him..

Very Repetitive, based on certain points from Tech Boom days

Very well written some of the initial chapters but as you go on reading it becomes repetitive on certain issues from Tech Boom days of late 90s.
Sector investing give some views on the indian market's current scenario but nothing of the level of Graham/Buffet.

    Good

1.Visibility good, readers may like this book as it is mostly focused on one's behavioral aspects. The contents are repetitive somewhere. 2. The issue for me was of delivering this product which was delayed by 3 days from the committed date.
