rise of the UP-Bihar mafia. It begins with the criminalisation of Indian
politics and describes the gangwars between Harishankar Tiwari
and Veerendra Pratap Shahi, and is folllowed by the exploits of the
notorious don Shriprakash Shukla who earned crores through extortion
and kidnapping in the nineties. The book also gives an account of the
rivalry between Mukhtar Ansari and Brijesh Singh; a hundred people
and an MLA were killed in the crossfire. The chapters that follow focus
on the entry of criminals, who are referred to as bahubalis' in Hindi,
into politics, and the formation of the UP-Bihar mafia syndicate.
