I quite liked this book. It is witty and evocative and there are stories inside stories. Good thing about Vicks Mango Tree is most of its characters are common people with achievable dreams. I think it's what that makes the book interesting. But unlike the blurb of the book says it is only very little about Emergency. Great read. Loved the spread of characters and their lives. Set in the Emergency period the voice of this novel is strong and different, and humour is dark, at times very dark. The fictional city, maybe based on Delhi or Ahemadabad,is sketched well. Would recommend this book.

Couldn't connect to the book, the writing style is also not that attractive. Wonder how Harpers published such a book. not recommended all in all. The story loses pace from the middle.The story could have been better if the writing was better, that's what I feel.
