What a Book!

This is fantasy fiction in authentic Indian settings par excellence. The quality of writing is powerful and beautiful, almost surreal. The story, the characters, the plot, the scene beginnings and endings, the pacing, the narrative, the sub plots, the chapter names, the English oh my god everything and everything about "The Guardians of Halahala" is simply superlative. I cannot avoid hyperbole while praising this work, at least to me, this is one of the best books I have ever read. (Only Ashw...

MUST READ!! Story-telling at its best!

AWESOME! Brilliant story-telling that keeps the reader Spell-bound... the pace of the story is perfect, never a dull moment, in short, "Un-put-down-able"... All the characters have been dealt with so well that each one of them lingers in memory. There were many moments in the story where I felt "**** YEAH!!! That was bloody brilliant". Thank you so much for the wonderful experience you provided Master Story-Teller.. Can't wait to get hold of Book 2: The Conspiracy at Meru

Fabulous!

Ever since I read "The Immortal of Meluha", I became huge fan of the alternate history or mythology genre. Half of my wishlist books are filled with this genre. The Guardians of the Halahala was in my wishlist for more than a year. I got my hands on the book few weeks back. And I considered myself lucky that I got author signed copy.

Indian mythological literature is pretty rich and deep. During our college times we used to think why Indian authors were not recreating those stories. Soon a t...

Riveting

Storyline: Riveting! Has the reader completely hooked to it. The book opens with the story of ‘Amrith Manthan’ or the churning of the White Lake by the ‘devas’ (Gods) and ‘Asuras’ (Demons). What emerged was a black boulder holding within it an iridescent blue liquid. Their joy knew no bounds. The boulder was cracked open only to reveal the Halahala, an all- devouring poison. What followed was utter chaos until the Omniscient One i.e. Lord Shiva was approached. There being no other go Lord Shi...

Fantastic characters, smooth read, gripping plot

This book is an absolute beauty. What sets this book apart from other mythology books / modern novels of Indian authors is the impeccable vocabulary and masterful storytelling in English. Characters have been developed with utmost care and the war scenes are beautifully described. The historical and mythological characters - Vikramaditya, Indra etc come together in a carefully woven plot that pits motives of the various characters against each other leaving you craving for the second book in ...

Its Amrit or the Nectar for all Readers

What a stunning account of Vikramaditya, statesmanship of his counsellor, his wife Vishakha in limbo but awake which instantly transfix a readers in surreal historical & blithe mythological settings. Each and every: major and minor characters come alive as if talking to you here and now. The main plot and subplots are so beautifully crafted that they are simply stunning. The characters come alive in those settings. Even the Omniscient takes a different form when he hands over Halahal to right...

Simply Superb! Start to finish in one go!

A mythological thriller? Sounded implausible when I first heard about it, especially given our own set notions on mythology. But this completely blew my mind... hitherto unrelated mythological events seamlessly interwoven into a story that makes sense, absolutely superb!

To take the premise of the Sagarmanthan and focus on the poison when all other accounts only focus on the nectar, lends to an excellent story with lots of intrigue, action and epic battles.

But what sets this book apart ar...

Just okay

I got scammed by the positive reviews. There are lots of character in the book, but most of the lime Light is on Vikramaditya alone. The main plot about the Halahala isnt very intriguing and Intresting. Sub plots are predictable and lame. The only thing good about this book is the way it is written. The description and the language is beautiful, easy to read and uunderstandable. But apart from that the story doesnt exicte me. Maybe the mytho lovers out there would but a pure fantasy lover won...
