Ways of Seeing (English, Paperback, Berger John)
Ways of Seeing is one of the most intriguing and stimulating books on art in any language by bestselling English author and art critic, John Berger.
Summary of the Book
Ways of Seeing is a unique book which explores a distinctive way of looking at art. First published in 1972, it is based on the four-part BBC television series of 30-minute films, created by John Berger and Mike Dibb. The author discusses the fact that our vision comes before our words, just like a child sees and recognizes something before it learns how to speak. It is vision which helps us understand our surroundings in the world. The author also writes that association between our vision and knowledge is never established. The book comprises seven essays with images and words. The first four essays have both images and words, while the other three essays only have images. Intriguing and invigorating, Ways of Seeing is an essential read for art enthusiasts and students of visual culture and art history.
