Excellent External HDD and NAS

I have been using this WD My Book Live 2 TB Network Hard disk for over a month now and I have been very happy with the purchase. This HDD doubles up as your NAS which could be accessed over internet if you have "always on" internet connection.

Setting up the device is pretty simple. WD has provided the required setup tools easily accessible from their website and the community support also looked fine. It was easy to find out how to enable SSH for this ubuntu box and set up some cron jobs.

Defiitely worth it

I have a home network and the WD My Book Live seemed the ideal choice from a price - performance point. I initially wanted to buy the 1TB box since the 2TB box was out of stock. But the wait was worth it. You get double the capacity for a modest increase in price.
Performance looks good. On large file copies, the speed maxed out at 100 Mbps since that is the LAN speed supported by my router. Runs quite and I couldn't feel it heat up; just a bit warm after copying several 10s of GBs.

Great media library for your Smart TV

I use this Network Hard disk as a media server at home. Using Ethernet, I am sharing this media with 2 Internet TV - LG and Sony Bravia and am able to play any of my movies simultaneously on both the TV in seconds. I have also installed an app on my IPad to access this media library. It will also play embedded subtitles in some video formats, depending on the compatibility with the TV. Personal Cloud and Its Nice !

Received the product only yesterday (< 24 Hrs). It took only few minutes and simple steps before I could start using the same. My first time back up size is approx. 175 GB and its in progress since last 14 Hrs. With my current router settings, the backup speed is about 6GB data per hour.

I could access my files remotely from my office, my phone without testing my patience.
Could also run small HD video clip, but video speed is below average.

Verdict: So far so good and happy about it.

Easy to use, nice design.

But!!!!! it's not fast as they are saying, i did some expr
copying files media ext, not much speed as pen-drive also,

Best Networks Drive

Works Really Well. You should have a gigabit router to take full advantage of the network drive. It also works on normal router with good speed around 4 to 8 MBps. The private cloud feature is excellent. You can access your drive at home from anywhere in the world provided your drive is connected to the internet.

Nice Cloud product

If you want to have a private cloud then I would recommend this, it is easy to setup and access your private files from any where, the speed and performance is excellent. Auto back and sync options is very good, and file sharing and access options is excellent, DNLA works well with all supported platforms and all the mobile devices and laptops at my home able to access the data with out any glitch.

Outstanding Product

Life is so much more convenient with this NAS drive. Accessing the movies and pics is so much more easier from my TV, laptop, desktop and mobiles. Setting it up is a cakewalk. Also easy to create multiple user profiles and assign access to folders accordingly. A must have for people who like to have a central media storage.

A wonderful NAS box with debian linux inside

This is a wonderful NAS drive supporting dlna.
Once you enable SSH to the drive which is actually very easy, you will be a proud owner of a very lean and mean debian machine.

You can install anything on this debian machine. If you know how to use this product, its great. I am using it and have recommended it to some of my friends. I happen to pick it up from another site, but looking forward to adding another one to my collection, once this reaches 80%.
