With dual FireWire 800 and a USB 2.0 interface, the HDD has good connectivity. Also, the second FireWire port allows you linearly connect one more external drive or peripheral to the laptop. Data transfer speeds go up to 480 MB/second on the USB 2.0 port and up to 800 MB/second on the FireWire 800 ports.
Use the WD Drive Utilities software that comes with the drive to register it, run diagnostics if there are any problems and back up your data when needed. The drive can also be password protected to disallow access to unscrupulous people with the WD security that has hardware encryption as well.
The drive is HFS+ Journaled to ensure that you can use it immediately with your Mac OS and is compatible with Apple Time Machine to help with backing data up. The device can also be reformatted for use on Windows XP and later.
The WD My Passport Studio comes with 500 of disk space for your data - you can store a lot of data including up to 250,000 songs or 200,000 photos.
